Day Three: Tower and another church!

The day of Tuesday started with us going to check out the big tower called Gremyachaya. Gremyachaya kinda sounds like the word Gremuchaya, which means noisy. And there is even a folk legend that says that the tower is haunted by a particularly noisy ghost of a woman. But the tower is called Gremyachaya because it protects the Gremyachij monastery :) So no noisy ghost, just a mispronounced word :)

I even climbed on top of one of the windows in the tower. It was a long climb, but I made it!

Next to the tower is a little church. And apprently the church is not even used anymore. Actually I learned that most churches were converted into warehouses during the Soviet times (Soviets were anti-religion!) so most churches were just storage space. And the view from the tower is beautiful! The tower is really really high up and looking down you see the river and lots of trees...

We were on our way to another church when we stumbled across a peice of gym equipment. In Russian schools, they make the kids do some tricks on these. I tried too :)

Dad tried too but he couldn't do anything... He was very ashamed of this and vowed to exercise more.

A recently restorated church. Very modern and apparently the architecture is not typical Pskov-like. Apparently red-brick and green/blue roofs are typically from Moscow. The church looked nice outside but inside was quite ugly. We could not take pictures but we did light a candle for my Grandfather's soul.
I needed to use the washroom and this is what they could offer me. As you can see: no toilet paper :(

A typically Russian thing. See how the sidewalk goes under that piece of wood? Well its bad luck to pass under it! So there is a cute little road that goes around it! How nice!
